TEAM PORTER APPEARS AT AGMC WELLNESS CENTER PROMOTING KIDS SPORTS BENEFIT

The importance of preparation and dedication to the building blocks for success and the attainment of goals were the main themes of the discussions with the audience at the Stow AGMC Wellness Center. An audience made up of about half kids and half parents saw Shawn, Ken and Bobby Keleal go through a ‘typical’ professional level workout.

The message was that while fans enjoy the great athleticism they see on TV and from the stands at contests, they are rarely aware of the work ethic, commitment to the goal, or the degree of focus that differentiates professional athletes from amateurs. Once they see the work necessary to attain high goals, they start to realize why world class athletes place so much value and joy in attainment of those goals.

Also, Ken discussed the role of a support team: from coaches and trainers to nutritionists, to fans and supporters.

During the demonstrations, Shawn did a full work out session, amazing the crowd at the level of intensity that he routinely works at, three times a day. While Shawn worked out with Ken and Bobby, they each described the apparatus and the challenges (balance, strength conditioning, speed, coordination, etc.) Shaw faced in each exercise drill.

Bobby Kaleal (Shawn’s strength and conditions coach) discussed the role of nutrition, sleep, stretching and emotional clarity. Ken worked with Shawn on boxing skill drills. He discussed the benefit of each drill and talked about the necessary commitment of time and dedication to master any sport.

And, of course, the day started with the kids getting the chance to ‘workout’ with Shawn, as a warmup to the event.

Shawn stayed to talk to everyone and signed autographs, as he always does.

BREAKING NEWS!
Porter destroys foe
Record now 14-0 with 12 KOs
(www.fightnews.com staff)

Promising, unbeaten junior middleweight Shawn Porter (14-0, 11 KOs) scored a spectacular first round KO over Raul Pinzon (17-5, 16 KOs). Pinzon didn’t make the contracted weight and the bout was fought at middleweight, but that didn’t faze Porter, who laid out Pinzon face first with an overhand right. Time was 2:39.
